Sažetak
The aim of this diploma paper was to show many differences as well as similarities between English and Croatian language. Definitions of metaphor, its division into 'living ' and 'dead' metaphors, the difference between a metaphor and a simile and some examples of common, classical and Shakespearean metaphors are given. The largest part of this paper is consisting of 471 phrase in total in English and approximately the same number of their equivalents in Croatian arranged in alphabetical order according to the body parts. Some headlines containing metaphors with body parts from English and Croatian newspapers and magazines are also included as examples of everyday use of metaphors.
