Sažetak
Since Croatia is an attractive destination for many tourists in summer, out of season strawberry production is becoming more interesting. Out of season production technology with short-day (SD) cultivars, has been developed in western European countries. Waiting bed (WB) plants have shown good potential in comparison with cold stored runner plants (frigo), and that is the reason for using them in our experiments. Trials were set in year 2002. and 2003. near Zagreb with WB plant material of strawberry cultivar Elsanta. Planting was done in two different periods (beginning and the middle of May), each year on black plastic mulch with fertigation. For every period of planting we recorded: beginning of harvest, middle of harvest (50%), yield, number and weight of fruits. The yield, the number and the weight of fruits was lower than expected. WB plants which were planted in the beginning of May, had significantly higher yield then those planted in the middle. The harvest was set forward, it began 5 to 6 weeks after planting.
