Sažetak
Due to a sudden break through of computer technology on board ships as well as fast development of computers, various computer systems from different manufactures of computer equipment are being installed on board ships. Surveillance and control of almost all computer system are done by computers, therefore their possible failures can cause damage, pollute sea and endanger human lives. As it is a matter of a new technology that is developing extremely fast, a problem of quality securing arose and for that reason the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) together with Norwegian Government started to work out the guidelines for design, approval and testing of such systems. The article deals with the suggested requirements that any equipment used on board must fulfill. Requirements for hardware and software of input-output units of computer systems are being considered for the purpose of easier communication between computers and their operators. Proposed testing methods of computer systems and accompanying documentation are also being delt with in the article.
