Sažetak
One of the innovations introduced in the MPEG-4 standard is the specification for the animation of human faces and bodies. We present an implementation of an MPEG-4 compatible Facial Animation system suitable for the Web. The system is implemented in a lightweight Java applet, which currently makes it unique. It is capable of animating facial models of medium complexity at interactive frame rates on an average PC and in most common Web browsers. A further advantage of the described implementation is that it allows creation of facial models, including animation, using standard commercial 3D modeling tools. This and similar projects open opportunities for new interactive web services involving talking virtual characters. Possible applications are discussed in this paper.
