Sažetak
Thermal methods play important role among various measuring techniques used in the analysis of explosive materials. These methods are mostly used for the thermal characterisation (e.g. melting process, polymorphic transformations, thermal stability, kinetics of thermal decomposition, temperature of initiation, etc.), however, they can also be used for the analytical purposes. (e.g. for identification of some commonly used high explosives and their mixtures, for determination of their purity and quality, for identification and determination of content of phlegmatiser, for multi-component systems analysis, etc.). The small sample size, the sample heterogeneity, the dynamic character of the processes taking place during measurements may all affect the outcome of the quantitative measurements by thermal methods. The above stated facts have motivated us to investigate the limitations of thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in quantitative analysis of energetic materials, as well as in kinetic treatment of experimentally obtained data. The experience and the results in the field of energetic materials, obtained on our laboratory during last six years, will be presented and discuss. Particular attention will be devoted to influence of sample self-heating during non-isothermal DSC measurements on kinetic results, influence of kinetic model of thermal decomposition on results of propellants self-ignition modelling, and applicability of DSC and TGA in propellants stability study.
