Sažetak
The percentage of women participating in the natural sciences research and higher education institutions in Croatia has increased in the last several years. There are no particular measures that would stimulate women engagement in science, but also there is no direct gender discrimination. The women in Croatia have equal rights in education and in getting positions in the academic and research institutions, and there are no gender differences in salaries. However, a significant under-representation of women in higher, decision– making positions is still present. These general conclusions can also be applied to women physicists in Croatia. They represent a minor part of Croatian physicists, but their percentage (exceeding 20%) is still higher than for many western European countries. The increased percentage of women scientists is typical for countries in transition (which is also the case of Croatia). Probably this should be attributed to a larger participation of women in the activities which have smaller social influence.
