Sažetak
The study of the key roles of researchers in a wider scientific community (gatekeeping roles), may contribute to better understanding the evaluations of scientific quality and allocation processes in science. The obtained results ought to be placed in the context of theoretical, methodological and empirical plausibility of the scientific quality analysis, on the basis of evaluational and scientifically influential roles of researchers. The main finding of the study allows an interpretation according to which the most latent dimension of the researcher's roles in a wider scientific community, being the scientific eminence, may be understood as an indicator of the scientific quality. In spite of all the (pre)transitional peculiarities of Croatian scientific system, the basic findings of the present study can be carefully generalized. In competitive and more selective systems, the scientific roles could be even a better indicator of the scientific quality evaluation.
