Sažetak
The foundations for the Croatian ethnomusicology were layed down by Kuhač's collection of Južno-slovjenske narodne popievke – an extensive work with 1, 627 tunes in Kuhač's arrangement. His idea of the founding of &laquo ; national Slavic music&raquo ; was conceived very broadly: his position was noted in the &laquo ; Historical Introduction&raquo ; to his work Ilirski glazbenici (Illyrian Musicians ; 1893). The founding of his work on Slavism was also manifested in the creation of Croatian musical terminology while using Slavic tutors. The Pan-Slavic idea is present in Kuhač's activities with various intensity in different areas and in several phases. Except in his published and manuscript materials (texts, music publications, collections and documents), the highly interesting support in studying Kuhač's ideas – including those on supra-national (in relationship to national-Croatian) understanding of music – is given by his letters.
