Sažetak
The author of the paper offers the qualification (and suggestion for encyclopaedic entries) of the 18th-century composer and violin virtuoso Ivan Jarnović concerning his birthplace, life and identity, as based on newest research acquisitions as following: we are dealing with the person who was very probably originally named Ivan Jarnović. He was very probably born on a ship in the waters of Marina di Ragusa in southern Sicily on October 23, 1747, or earlier in the waters of the City of Dubrovnik (Croatia), and was definitely baptised as Ioannes Joseph Antonius Cajetanus Vincentius Nicolaus Giernovichi on October 29, 1747. Furtheron, Jarnović should be treated as a European violin virtuoso and composer – probably of Croatian origins on his father's side and Dalmatian-Italian on his mother's side – and the main representative of the late 18th-century French violin school.
