Sažetak
Dye containing wastewater from the production and application industries is an environmental problem of a great concern. Although, the cleaner production approach to the waste minimization and other environmental considerations are now a crucial part of process design, the "end-of-pipe" wastewater treatment technologies are still required. Conventional biological treatment of this class of waste streams is not feasible because of its poor biodegradability. Our previous research indicated that the coagulation/flocculation process is suitable and cheap method for colour removal from organic dye industry wastewater. In the present work the coagulation/flocculation process was evaluated for possible use as a method for the reactive dyes removal from the wastewater. The ability of AlCl3 to remove various reactive dyes from aqueous solutions was investigated. The classes of reactive dyes included the monochlorotriazine dyes with azo and anthraquinone chromophoric groups. The study was aimed at determining: the optimum pH, the optimum coagulant concentration, and the settlement characteristics as well as characteristics of the sludges produced. Since the recent advances in coagulation/flocculation have emphasized the importance of the rapid mixing in the overall coagulation process in the present work the laboratory experiments were conducted using certain configuration of the stirred tank involving rapid and slow mixing. To judge the quality of treated dye wastewater several ecological parameters were determined: COD, BOD, TOC, AOX and LD.These results suggest that the coagulation/flocculation may be a viable method for reactive dye wastewater treatment. The results also could be used for an economic evaluation of alternative.
