Sažetak
The bridge over the sea strait, between the mainland and Pelješac peninsula will establish the fixed link between parts of Croatian territory. The crossing is approximately 2.140, 0 m wide at the sea level and 2.380, 0 m at the grade line, while the depth of the sea is about 27, 0 m across the whole strait. In last ten years almost thirty alternative bridge structures were analysed for this crossing, from girder and truss type structures over arch and cable-stayed bridges to a suspension bridge. In this paper nine bridge designs by the Department for Structural Engineering of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb, among which the winning design was chosen, are presented: continuous steel superstructures with spans up to 200 m, the continuous steel box on the V-shaped piers with span lengths of 242 m, the sequence of arches with spans of 290 m, the cable stayed bridge of 330 m main span with approach spans of 170 m and the main tied arch bridge 350 m in span with approach spans of 200 m. The design, structural analysis and the predicted cost of bridge alternatives are presented.
