Sažetak
Possible future developments of large span arch bridges have been investigated based on the Croatian tradition. Some important arch bridges and their specifics for the design development are given. Also, the importance of the theoretical background and the influence of great builders are explained in the short historical review. The recent construction of some new Croatian arch bridges has been made possible through the development of new construction methods, the application of high strength concrete and better quality steels and by the introduction of innovative structural solutions. Numerical investigations of large span arch bridge construction possibilities in different materials have been performed by utilizing appropriate theoretical and numerical models. New developments, covering span lengths surpassing span lengths built so far and including innovative arch bridge structures, have been proposed, based on the results of these numerical analyses. Relevant data on the newest Croatian arch bridge the Krka highway bridge with 204 m span is also accounted for.
