Sažetak
Aim. In the presented study, we analysed the influence of changes 6th edition in relation with 5th edition of TNM classification onto prognosis of thyroid papillary microcarcinoma. Design. Retrospective study. Patients and Methods. 108 patients with thyroid papillary carcinoma, who underwent total thyroidectomy followed by I-131 ablation therapy, classifed as T1 were divided into 2 groups according to their size (group 1: 10 mm, group 2: 11-20 mm). The new and old TNM classification systems for differentiated thyroid carcinoma were applied and compared relapse-free survival. Results. According to the new staging systems, 67 (62%) patients were classified as T1 compared to 41 (38%) patients based on the former edition. There was a signiificant difference in disease free survival between group 1 and group 2 (p=0.03). Conclusion. Due to the changes in staging, new TNM classification has a slightly worse relapse-free survival for papillary microcarcinoma. The application of new classification in clinical practice for this carcinoma seems to be unjustified.
