Sažetak
The priory of Saint-Pierre de Souvigny (Allier) was the site of an important archaeological discovery during an official excavation in 2001-2002: the tomb of the abbots of Cluny, Mayeul and Odilon, whose remains were placed together in an early medieval sarcophagus at the end of the eleventh century. This sarcophagus was girded and surmounted by three successive funerary monuments. The two first, dating from the eleventh and twelfth centuries, consisted first of a painted architectural ensemble, crowned with a large wooden ciborium. The second was a burial vault covered by a sculpted parallelpipedic superstructure in stone. The last monument was Gothic, displaying two gisants which were destroyed with the rest of the tomb at the Revolution. The various renovations of the liturgical arrangements also attest to the importance of the pilgrimage to the holy burial site and its progressive evolution from the eleventh to the eighteenth century.
