Sažetak
The modern world can hardly be imagined without energy. Industry, communications, mobility of modern living and various other activities would be impossible without a continuous and sufficient energy supply. Amongst primary energy sources, oil and gas have a predominant position. This liquid and gaseous hydrocarbon mixture, exploitation of which commenced some hundred years ago, has dramatically changed human lives and the society at large. Oil has shaped world politics and affected the destiny of states. It has caused crises and clashes and frequently dictated their outcome. Oil plays an important role in the modern economy and impacts economic growth. No wonder it is frequently called “ black gold.” So it was during the last century, and most probably it will remain so in the first half of the 21st century.
