Sažetak
Energy market with its basic elements is adopting more and more characteristics typical for all the other global markets and it has gained, more than any other sector, global political and economical influence. Today the world is faced with the third era of fossil fuels denoted with increasingly dominant role of natural gas. At the beginning of the XXI century natural gas in Croatia takes part with 27 percent of the total energy balance. In the past two decades the natural gas consumption in Croatia marks a constant growth with the only exception of the 90’ s during the war. Natural gas in Croatia is produced from 17 gas fields and its production covers around 60 percent of total national gas consumption. Gasification, build up of new gas capacities and directions and gas market liberalization followed by transparent energy policy are the main elements of successful strategy of energy sector development. Considering all previously mentioned with taking into account tourism as a crucial part of Croatian national economy, it could be concluded that natural gas is the most eligible energy source as for the environmental protection and low energy intensity production. The development of natural gas market will consequently influence global energy movements and will directly impact oil share at the global energy market. Furthermore the growing impact of international gas trade will result with new complex relations between the gas consumers and suppliers.
