Sažetak
In Croatia educational integration was legalized as early as in 1980. However, there are still very few special educators working in regular primary schools. According to data available to the City Bureau for Education, Culture and Science, between 1982 and 1994 only 37 were employed in the city of Zagreb ,in the total of 94 schools. Teachers who , during their university education ,do not receive adequate training for the work with pupils with delayed cognitive development ,cannot get all the support and help they need from the school's special educator ,if the school has one at all ,because special educators cover too large a number of pupils. The goal of this paper is to establish the differences in the attitudes of 249 teachers in 17 Zagreb primary schools toward pupils with delayed cognitive development in relation to the level of their cooperation with the special educator. The applied inventory "Attitudes toward integration " consists of 21 statements. The responses offered include five levels of agreement with statement from "I completely agree" to " I don't agree at all". The General Questionnaire for teachers refers to the level of their cooperation with the special educator and offers six answers , from "there is no special educator at school" to "special educators directly works with children with delayed cognitive development".
