Sažetak
Scientific project “ Prevention of Behavior Disorders in Local Community” is conducted by Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Zagreb (principal investigator: Josipa Bašić, Ph.D.) and Administrative Department of Health Care, Social Welfare and Work of the Region of Istria, Croatia. The project involves both, research part (the sample comprised preschool, elementary and high school children, their parents/families, teacher and other professional stuff and key persons in the community) and action part (education and prevention strategy planning with the group of coordinators and expert teams formed for this purpose). The project follows the SAMHSA model of successful prevention programming that are described through 7 steps – Community readiness and mobilization, Needs assessment, Prioritizing, Resource assessment, Focusing efforts, Best practices and Evaluation. The process of needs and resources assessment in selected communities of Region of Istria will be presented in this presentation. The needs assessment is carried through conducted research, collection of epidemiological data and focus groups. Research was the responsibility of the researchers from the Faculty, while collection of epidemiological data and planning/conducting the focus groups were the group of coordinators and expert team for epidemiology accountability. Researchers from the Faculty, in order to prepare them for these tasks, worked with them (education) and gave them technical and other support. For the resource assessment there were two different protocols that were given to the different institutions that care for children and youth. This line of work was responsibility of the expert team for the program and resource assessment, also with the support from researchers from the Faculty. Although some of the mention activities are still in the process, we expect that we will be able to present, besides the process, results of needs and resource assessment in the Region of Istria.
