Sažetak
Opatija is today facing a threat of losing its status as an “ elite” destination that it has had for a century. During the Homeland war, whole Croatian coast as well as Opatija has stayed behind because of the lost possibility to keep the pace with the forcing competition on the global market. Therefore, it is of its primary interest to determine the path in which to identify and develop its potentials. The purpose of this study is to explore whether there are possibilities of increasing economic effectiveness in bundling different characteristics of tourist offer to an existing population or selected segment of tourists. Focus of the study was on quantitative analysis that was supported with the data extracted from the interviews with hotel and LTO managers. Research identified potential segment of tourists in Opatija and tourist products that destination should develop in the future, as well as required changes in current ownership structure in tourism sector and destination management.
