Sažetak
The region Kvarner (Croatia) is one of the best developed tourist region in Croatia, already well-known on the important markets. The tourist offer of Kvarner is been developing intensively in the last 30 years, and tourism is the key element in development strategy of the region. Nevertheless, we have to face a quite significant change in needs and preferences of the contemporary tourist demand on the one hand, and the great efforts of the competitors to improve their tourist product on the other hand. All those facts significantly influence on the future development of tourism in Kvarner region. The destinations of Kvarner are improving old festivals, carnivals and typical cultural events in order to satisfy the tourists’ needs, but also to protect local cultural identity. The paper is prepared on the two relevant backgrounds: a) Complex survey of the attitudes of tourists, local residents, renters and tourism management about the tourist offer of the Kvarner region ; b) Analysis of the main events on the Kvarner ; c) Contemporary trends regarding needs and expectations of the tourist. The survey has been made in year 2003 as a part of the scientific project « ; Tourism Regionalization in Global Processes» ; and with the support of tourist associations in the Kvarner region. The aims of the paper is to critically examine the tourist offer of the region Kvarner and to confront it with the preferences of tourists (the special accent is on the festivals, carnivals and other traditional events)
