Sažetak
The present study is an attempt to characterize the Cu2+ and Pb2+ removal process by electric furnace slag (EFS) from the "Felis" foundry in Sisak, Croatica, so that it coluld be used for industrial waste waters purification. The sorption process of two heavy metal ions by EFS was divided into two parts ; single sorption of the metals Cu2+ and Pb2+ and binary system Cu2+ -Pb2+. The temperature at which the sorption takes place, inital concentration of Cu2+ and Pb2+ and time of copntact are three of the most important parameters that can influence the sorption behaviour of electric furnace slag. The goal of this study was to investigate these three effects on the uptake of binary system Cu2+ - Pb2+ from wastewater using EFS. Over the temperature range studied (293-313 K) the resaults of adsorption experiment could be fitted by using a both Langmuir and Freundlich models and thermodynamic values of G, H and S corresponding to each adsorption process were calculated. Satisfactory conformity between experimental data and the model-predicted values was expressed by the correlation coefficient (R2). Both Langmuir and Freundlich models described the binary system Cu2+ -b2+ sorption processes adequately. Data from this study indicated the potential use of the tested electric furnace slag, a by-product from "Felis" foundry in Sisak, Croatia, as Cu2+ and Pb2+ sorbent from the industrial effluent. In the manufacture of low carbon steel casting in the basic electric arc furnace 70 to 80 kg of slag per ton of steel casting is produced.
