Sažetak
In this paper I consider Michael Smith’ s position of metaethical rationalism defended in his very influental book The Moral Problem. Smith’ s solution to what he calls “ the moral problem” is based on his distinction between normative and motivating reasons. In order to establish the consistency between the Humean theory of motivation, “ the objectivity of moral judgment” , and “ the practicality of moral judgment” , Smith argues that an agent has normative reason to φ only if she would desire that φ under conditions of full rationality. In light of this, Smith argues that fully rational agents converge in their desires about what to do in various circumstances. I argue that we should not accept Smith's idea of convergence.
