Sažetak
The construction of the cathedral in Šibenik began in 1431, probably after the design of Bonino da Milano, who died before the beginning of the construction. Thus, the construction was led by two minor Venetian masters, Antonio Busato and Lorenzo Pincino, who began the cathedral in Lombard Gothic manner. In 1441 a new protomagister was brought from Venice: master Juraj Matejev, known as Juraj Dalmatinac (George from Dalmatia). Excellent architect and sculptor, native from Zadar, he developed into the most original artist of the Croatian Quattrocento. He enlarged and transformed the plan of the basilica, introducing a new, Renaissance spatial concept, and also a new, original technique of building: "stone frame" akin to the wooden timber structures. In 1477 Niccolo from Florence assumed a function of protomagister. He was an important artist, who brought the pure Florentine Renaissance style into Croatia, but in architecture he was a follower of Juraj Dalmatinac, completing the cathedral after Juraj's structural concept, in his manner and spirit. Bartolomeo from Mestre (protomagister from 1517) constructed the side-aisles vaults, and his son Giacomo completed the cathedral in 1536.
