Sažetak
Opioid peptides enkephalins, signal molecules belonging to the family of neuropeptides processed (activated/inactivated) by the cell membrane metallopeptidase EC3.4.24.11 (CD10, CALLA, neutral endopeptidase, neprilysin), may participate in the control of hematopoiesis. Substance P was also found to induce cytokine secretion and change specific receptor expression on bone marrow stromal cells. It may be noted that the list of unorthodox hemoregulatory signals encompasses angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), catecholamines and sympathetic innervation. On the other hand, 'orthodox' hematopoietic growth factors such as the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and other cytokines have been found to induce proliferation, differentiation and cytokine secretion in brain glial cells and to promote growth and enzymatic activity of the neurons. Thus, signal mechanisms shared with other systems of the human body, in particular with the nervous system, participate in the regulation of hematopoiesis, and vice versa.
