Sažetak
The effect of paper dust colected in paper reclycing plant on isolated, nonsensitized guinea pig tracheal smooth muscle was studied in vitro. Dust extract was prepared as a 1:10 w/v aqueous solution. Constrictor effects of dust extract was partialy inhibited by a wide variety of the mediator blocking agents. The effects were almoast totally inhibited by the anticholinergic agent atropine, suggesting that at principal pathway mediating this response may involve the parasympathetic nervous system. The intracellular calcium blocking agent TMB80 also induced a reduction of the contractile responses to paper dust extracts. Pretreatment with capsaicin sinificantly increased the contractile activity of paper dust extracts. This suggests that the effect of paper dust is not initiated by the relese of the mediators stored in sensory nerve. We suggest that paper dust extracts cause dose-related airway smooth muscle constriction posible associated with the relese of cholinergic as well as other mediators.
