Sažetak
Telomeres are specialized structures found at the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes and their primary function is to maintain genome stability. Normally telomeres shorten at each cell division but immortal cell lines undergoing multiple divisions have to constantly maintain their lengths above critical range. We analysed telomere dynamics of tumor cell lineMiaPaca-2. We found that 39% of MiaPaca-2 telomeres did not have detectable telomere repeats by PNA-FISH even on chromatids whose sisters were strongly labeled. we discuss molecular mechanisms that may explain observed large telomere heterogenity and possible adaptive chromosome repair mechanisms used by these cells in order to survive such permanent and extreme genome instability.
