Sažetak
Symptoms of complete or incomplete spinal cord transversal syndrome sometimes are caused by demyelinating lesion diagnosed by spinal MRI. These lesions are of special interest in neurology because of very wide differential diagnosis ranging from relapsing remitting or primary progressive multiple sclerosis, different aspects of acute or chronic DEM and its variant neuromyelitis optica as well as from demyelination caused by other autoimmune or inflammatory diseases. Another diagnostic problem is with patient who develop most often complete transversal spinal syndrome but without signs of demyelination or other kind of pathologic involvement of spinal cord. It was reported that about 40% of acute transverse myelopathies remain undemonstrated with MRI. In 27 patients who were diagnosed with acute transverse myelitis due to demyelinating lesions of spinal cord, clinical symptoms, biochemistry, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and MRI findings were evaluated in purpose to differentiate clinical signs and symptoms characterized for acute idiopathic transverse myelitis (ATM), MS, or other various forms of DEM.
