Sažetak
Core network is based on the separation of functionality into a control layer, a connectivity layer and an application layer. The BICC signalling is carried on top of either ATM or IP based signalling transport using a Signalling Transport Converter, which makes the call control signalling independent of the underlying layers. Operators have been given the possibility for smooth migration from the Telephony Over ATM (ToATM) towards ToIP using BICC as a Call Control Protocol. During migration from the ATM used as backbone network to IP used as backbone network the operator will have the possibility to specify the percentage of traffic that have to be transported via the IP network.
