Sažetak
Traditional games were spread around the world by travellers and soldiers. On the other hand, they have been passed down from one generation of children to the next. Some of their details change, while their basic patterns usually remain the same. The thesis presents a division of traditional games popular in the English-speaking world and describes several games. In the next step, the educational value of games is considered. In addition to being fun, games are also instructive. A game is a learning process in which children copy and adapt situations from real life. They imitate others, exchange ideas, find solutions to problems and learn to respect rules. Games help children from early childhood on to develop complex skills of investigation and communication. Therein lies the huge potential of traditional games for English language teaching, especially with young learners.
