Sažetak
Antimicrobial activity of the etheric and ethanolic extract of the Vitex agnus-castus L. was studied by the dilution method. The extracts were active against all tested microorganisms: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus faecalis (6.5-20% extracts), Salmonella species, Escherichia coli ( 10-20%), Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, C. pseudotropicalis, and C. krusei ( 10-40%). The extracts also inhibited the growth of dermathophytes and moulds species. High toxicity against mycelial growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis and Microsporum gypseum in dilutions in the range from 1.5 to 12% and Penicillium viridicatum ( 9-23%)was found.
