Sažetak
Background and purpose: Data on the species Genocidaris maculata AGASIZZ and characteristics of the habitats in which it was found, are presented. Data are based on personal studies of the author. Materials and methods: Benthic flora and fauna were collected by skin and SCUBA diving from 1/25 sq m surfaces between the sea surface and depths of 20 - 50 m, depending on the depth of selected transects. Samples were also collected by dredge. Results and discussion: Specimens of the species Genocidaris maculata were recorded in the eastern Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea in the biocoenosis of photophilic algae, precoralline aspect of coralline biocoenosis and mixed settlements of the biocoenosis of photophilic algae and scyaphilic elements of the coralline biocoenosis complex. The species was found between depths of 2 and 4 m, which is considerably shallower than earlier reported for the world seas, as well as, from depths of 12, 17 and 20 - 25 m.
