Sažetak
There are well known differences between two standard languages, Burgenland s Croatian and Croatian. In Burgenland, both of these languages are being taught at schools, Burgenland s Croatian in lower and Croatian in the upper grades. In the year of 2003 educational software for Burgenland s Croatian was made and since then it has been successfully used in student s motivation in learning. In order to make a standard Croatian version of the same software, some unexpected problems have appeared. The exercises could not have been translated just taking care of the differences like lexis, declination, conjugations or the word order, but of the functionality of the chosen words. Lexis of Burgenland s Croatian was mostly based on the work around the house and on the fields, with tools, animals and behaviour typical for the life in the village. Do high school students in Burgenland who learn standard Croatian also need these words? Whom this new Croatian software, besides Burgenland s high school students, can be also useful for? Which are these generally needed words? This work will try to answer these questions.
