Sažetak
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterized by increase in intraocular pressure which cause pathological changes in the optic disk and typical defect in the field of vision. The increased intraocular pressure is the result of obstructive aqueous outflow and if it is not controlles it can lead to opthalmic nerve lesion and blindness. The corresponding operative methods are frequently used in glaucoma therapy. A local application of mitomycin.C solution is recommended durin surferies. Such treatments in Universitiy Hospital Centre-Zagreb prove to give very positive results.
the therapeutic concentration of the mitomycin-C aqueous solution suitable for ophtalmic applicaton is 0.2 mh/mL. The solution is prepared under aseptic conditions form commercially avialable lyophilizate of mitomiycin-C and mannitol in aqua pro injectione, filtrated througf filter membrane, pore size 0.2 m and poured out into sterile 10 mL injection bottles. In one series the prepared amount meets the hospital needs for approximately one month.
According to literature data data mitomycin-C aqueous solution is unstable, sensitive to light and temperature. The aim of our research was the control of solution stability in a period of one month. The solution was stored in a light protected place at refrigerator temperature 4-8 oC. Stability was followed by means of ultraviolet spectroscopy and thin layer chromatography. Comparing the UV spectra and chromathograms of solutions aged 7, 14, 21 and 28 days with a freshly solution it was concluded that the mitomycin-C solution can be safely in a period of one month.
