Sažetak
The aim of this study is to explore the diabetic patients’ level of information about their drugs, side effects and drug interactions, an extent of patients' satisfaction with pharmaceutical and medical care, and patients' perception about the utility of drugs. A survey, comprised of one hundred diabetic outpatients (68% female and 32% male, 31.6% IDDM and 69.4% NIDDM) was used in this study. Patients were successfully recruited at University clinic for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic disorders ''Vuk Vrhovac'' in Zagreb. An appropriate statistical analysis was used for the evaluation of collected questionnaires. Obtained results reveal the following: well-informed patients about their illness, therapy approaches and possible complications, but significantly low information level about drugs. A relatively huge percentage (26%) of interviewed patients did not know names of their drugs, 51% were not informed about side effects, and 36% of them about possible drug interactions. Taking into consideration that almost 80% of patients were on concomitant therapy with more than one drug, such huge percentage of uninformed patients indicates on possibility of drug therapy related problems.
