Sažetak
Systematic monitoring of chemical and physical composition of precipitation on the territory of Croatia is a part of the monitoring programme of the World Meteorological Organisation. This comprehensive monitoring system has been established as an early warning system for detection and prediction of change in atmospheric composition and climate.
The methodology specifies sample collection procedure, analytical methods, instrumentation, data collection, and data handling i.e. overall quality assurance activities to ensure the target data quality. The quality system follows generally accepted standards and recommendations for good laboratory practice (ISO 9000 and 9004). The laboratory precision has been checked through interlaboratory tests for determination of macroelements in synthetic sample of precipitation and sulphur and nitrogen dioxide in absorbing solutions. Chemical Laboratory of the Meteorological and Hydrological Service has taken part in four intercomparison studies since 1994 to 1997.
Analytical results of the pH, conductivity, chloride, ammonium, nitrates, sulphates, sodium, and potassium determination were within the acceptable limits; at low concentration levels, the results were not always acceptable. The results of magnesium and calcium determination were not within the acceptance limits.
