Sažetak
Preparation and characterization of novel nanostructured materials and catalysts belong to an emerging and rapidly growing field of research. The use of nanoscaled catalysts opens up a many possibilities of improving catalytic activity and selectivity in various processes. In heterogeneous catalysis this is largely influenced by surface properties of such materials. This study was aimed at developing catalytic nanomaterials with well-defined structure and promising activity for NO removal from the exhaust streams. The investigation included preparation, characterization and application of several types of nanostructured catalysts, such as mixed-metal oxide V-O-W/Ti(Sn)O2 (r) and different metal containing zeolites ZSM-5 (Cu/ZSM-5, Fe/ZSM-5). The Ti, Sn rutile supported V-O-W catalyst was prepared by the sol-gel method from isopropoxide substrates, as described elsewhere  1 . Copper containing ZSM-5 was prepared by ion exchange of copper ions into Na/ZSM-5 using aqueous solution of copper acetate  2 . Fe/ZSM-5 was prepared by the solid– state ion exchange method using NH4/ZSM-5 and FeSO4· 7H2O. Different characterization methods, e.g. XRD analysis, SEM, surface measurements, EPR and DSC/TG, were used in studying these materials, to discuss correlation between physico-chemical and catalytic properties. Catalytic activity of the prepared catalysts was compared using catalytic decomposition of NO as a model reaction. The reaction was performed in the isothermal plug flow reactor under atmospheric pressure at different temperatures (473-773 K) and space times. Experimental data were tested with simple empirical and three mechanistic kinetic models. It was found that the rate of NO decomposition over V-O-W/Ti(Sn)O2 (r) catalyst can be described with kinetic model based on the assumption of NO adsorption on the active sites as the rate determining step. On the other hand, a mechanistic kinetic model, which assumed bimolecular surface reaction as the slowest step in the overall reaction rate, described better the reaction rate over zeolite catalysts.
