Sažetak
The global problems facing the future of sustainable development after Johannesburg have been at the center of attention of the Club of Rome meeting in 2002. We discussed some of the scenarios taking into account the situation after the recent Iraq crisis. Implication of the above developments for Croatia and Slovenia are given. These processes have their scientific, technological and political dimensions. Through political dimensions different intersts hinder sustainable development. Comprehensive sustainable development requires research and technological development (RTD), an appropriate educational system establishing thereby a knowledge society. Countries in transition face brain-drain and incoherent RTD and educational systems. We review some of the present development.
