Sažetak
Heavy-ion physics is a branch of physics encompassing a broad range of investigations with accelerated beams of ions heavier than alpha particles. In these investigations e.g. new elements (up to Rg, Z=111) and new types of radioactivity (p and 2p, heavy-ion radiocativity) were discovered and signals of quark-gluon plasma observed. We will also discuss applications based on spin-off driven by heavy-ion physics: superconducting, high-vacuum, low temperature and computer techologies. In medicine heavy-ion beams have been recently applied for treatment of brain cancer inaccesible by surgery
