Sažetak
Dimensional stone quarrying is wide spread mining activities generally developed as open pit quarries. In last few decades dimensional stone quarries are developing the underground system of exploitation by using new developed mining machines. Specific demands in stone block production, environment demands for nature protection and underground mine activities, are the basic points for creating special “ rules” for executing these activities respecting the mine workings safe and profitable. Underground exploitation of thin and shallow layered limestone quarry must respect the schedule of microtectonic discontinuities, and applying technology of exploitation with modern underground chain saws, can make these activities profitable. With regular following the schedule of discontinuity and respect of room and pillar geometry, excavation can be created using the “ design as you go” system of exploitation. Basic elements of room and pillar geometry can be improved by “ in situ” determination of rock tensile strength, and with the combination of adequate following the relative deformations and strain. Underground exploitation of thin layered limestone is under develop in “ Kanfanar” quarry in Croatia.
