Sažetak
The first version of the Croatian National Habitat Classification has been developed as a part of the project "Mapping the habitats of the Republic of Croatia". This classification has five levels and it covers all habitat types, from natural and semi-natural to the highly artificial (anthropogenic) habitats. It is partially original and partially based on harmonization of several previously developed Croatian habitat classifications. In the part of classification related to the vascular vegetation, phytocoenological data from literature has been mainly used for definition of types. Definition of types in all other parts of the classification uncovered by phytocoenological data were mainly based on dominant and indicator species, with some exceptions (e.g. eroded, burnt or built areas) where key ecological factors has been used. Supporting materials, developed together with the first version of the national classification, include: 1) the system of recoding of national classification into other standards (EUNIS, PHYSIS, CORINE Landcover, Natural Vegetation of Europe, Barcelona Convention) and 2) the system of colours and marks for cartographical presentation of areas according to national classification
