Sažetak
The insulin-like growth factor system is a complex system of peptide hormones IGF1 and IGF2, cell surface receptors (IGFR1 and IGFR2) and circulating binding proteins. IGF1 and IGF 2 are mitogens that play a role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosisTheir effects are mediated through the IGFR1 which initiate signaling cascades that result in regulation of a number of biological response. Consistent with the IGFs autocrine/paracrine regulation of tumor growth, cancer treatment strategies interfering with IGF-R1 signaling have been developed, that may be used in future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
