Sažetak
The number of islands, islets, rocks and rocks awash in the internal waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia is different in the researches of different authors. The reasons are two: different definitions of the notion of island, islet, rock and rock awash, and geodetic maps of different scales and accuracy. In this paper precise definitions of islands, islets, rocks and rocks awash were given according to current definitions established by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). The next step was to digitize the coastline from topographic maps on 1: 25 000 scale. After that, the data were transformed into the common, Gauss-Kr ger’ s projection system. In GIS software AutoCAD Map 2000 polygon topology of all islands, islets, rocks and rocks awash was made. In this way 1242 islands, islets, rocks and rocks awash were defined, and the database was formed, including the names, surfaces and coastline lengths.
