Sažetak
Although less explored, zinc-binding proteins are particularly interesting because zinc possesses an important role in growth and differentiation. We found very important to determinate tissue zinc concentration, some zinc-dependent proteins and enzymes which are directly and/or indirecty involved in the compensatory liver growth (CLG)control, which started immediately after partial hepatectomy. pHx was performed in male Balb/C mice (2-3 months old). Crude zinc-balance, zinc concentration and zinc-binding proteins were evaluated during liver regeneration at 24 hrs, 48 hrs, 7th day and 15th day after pHx. Sham operated animals were used as a positive control. At 24 hrs and 48 hrs, after pHx we found: negative crude zinc balance, accumulation of metallothioneins and zinc in the liver tissue, decreased 5'-nucleotidase and increased alkaline phosphatase activity, associated with concomitant impairment of peripheral immune efficiency (low IL-2 levels) and decrease of serum zinc concentration, in comparison with sham operated animals. In the late period of CLG, 7th and 15th day, the restoration of examined parametars in pHx mice was observed. Low zinc bioavailability in the early period of liver regeneration, due to its acumulation in the liver, may play a pivotal role for impairment of peripheral immune efficiency in this period. The significant negative correlations between values of zinc-zinc binding proteins, in the liver and in the serum suggests shift of zinc from periphery to the liver during the first period CLG, in order to complete the recuperation of liver functions as soon as possible.
