Sažetak
Tolerance, as an attitude towards different people, ideas, behaviors or things, is acquired through learning and experience. As such it could probably be learned throughout life by observational learning as well as through other forms of teaching. On the other hand, it is quite difficult to provoke any change in well established attitudes, be they tolerant or not. Knowledge about any changes in expressed tolerance after some additional explanations and definitions of tolerance could be useful in planning some measures to enhance tolerance. In order to test the hypothesis that some additional explanations could enhance tolerance, we have applied a tolerance questionnaire to over 100 secondary school boys and girls (16-17 years) and some 60 younger pupils (11-12 years). The older pupils filled the questionnaire before and after a one hour lecture on tolerance, while the younger pupils filled the same questionnaire at the beginning of the school year, and the second time after 5 months of regular school attendance. In the meantime they had a few lectures on tolerance, held by people of different color, nationality, profession etc. This way we had the opportunity to asses the immediate and delayed influence of teaching tolerance.
