Sažetak
Broomrape (Orobanche crenata Forsk.) is a root parasite that represents the major constraint for pea (Pisum sativum L.) cultivation in the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. The objective of our research was to identify genomic location and gene action of individual quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling broomrape resistance in order to develop a marker-assisted selection (MAS) programme. The mapping population used was a F2-derived F6 recombinant inbred lines (RIL) population from the cross between Pisum sativum L. subsp. elatius (Steven ex M. Bieb.) Asch & Graebn. var. pumilio Meikle, line P-665 partially resistant to broomrape and the susceptible cultivar P. sativum L. ssp. sativum cv. Messire. A linkage map consisting of 246 markers assigned to nine linkage groups has been developed. The map covered 1214 cM of the pea genome with an average intermarker distance of 5.84 cM. Six out of nine linkage groups were assigned to the International pea consensus genetic map using common markers. Single putative QTL (Or1) was detected on linkage group IV (chromosome 4 or 7 of the International pea consensus genetic map) explaining nearly 20 % of the phenotypic variance of the trait. Although O. crenata attacks different legume crops, so far resistance QTLs have only been described in faba bean. The genetic basis of resistance in pea seems to be more complex than in faba bean where three QTL accounted for 74% of the observed variation.
