Sažetak
Based on the knowledge of biologically detrimental potency of asbestos followed by global movement against trade, manufacture, use of asbestos and asbestos containing materials, the author presents the history of national use of asbestos, the first appearance of asbestos related diseases, and related scientific and professional investigations in that field of interest. Current situation and concern in the country and European Community is reviewed. The list of frequently used products/materials that can contain asbestos and recommendation about correct procedure which has to be undertaken in the case of positive asbestos identification is added. The identification of asbestos by presence and type in the bulk materials is provided at Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health, Zagreb by means of the MDHS 77. Method for the Determination of Hazardous Substances. Asbestos in bulk materials (ISO 9001 ; BS EN ISO/IEC 17025).
