Sažetak
The composition of the essential oil and the antioxidant properties of the dried herbs of Thymus bracteosus Vis. ex Benth. (Lamiaceae) were investigated. Of the essential oil (yield 0.06%), 77.4% could be identified by GC/MS analysis. The major compounds were germacrene-D (11.6%),  -caryophyllene (9.7%), myrcene (7.2%),  -pinene (6.3%) and trans- -farnesene (6.1%). The content of thymol was very low (0.1%) as compared with the essential oil of T. vulgaris. Aqueous and methanolic extracts as well as the essential oil of T. bracteosus were also investigated on their radical scavenger capacity. Furtermore, the ability of the extracts to inhibit peroxidation of membrane lipids was tested. The essential oil of T. bracteosus did not show any antioxidant activity in the test systems.
