Sažetak
The ultrasound treatment of wool fibres is realised by using the 30 kHz frequency, for 30 minutes period, in water as a medium, at the temperature of 20 degrees. The ultrasound treatment exhibits a beneficial impact on the mechanical properties of different fibres and yarns. The efficiency of the ultrasound treatment on wool fibres is determined by studying the morphological and dimensional characteristics of the fibres, as well as physical-chemical and mechanical fibre properties. The paper discusses the impact of the ultrasoud treatment, based on the changes of mechanical properties, tensile strength, resistance to friction and resistance to torsion, as these are the properties tested. The method of individual measuring is used in the investigations described. It includes a number of measurements necessary to achieve statistical certainty of results at least 95%.The results of measuring are statistically processed by calculating the statistic variability parameters (arithmetic mean, mean-square deviation and coefficient of variation). According to the results obtained, the ultrasound treatment has a beneficial impact on wool fibres, especially on the friction properties of all the wool samples tested and partially on tensile properties. The changes caused by the ultrasound treatment indicate that the modifications obtained are especially evident on the macro-morphological structure of the wool fibres treated.
