Sažetak
Indirect reflections from the room's boundaries has basic ingredients to control these room effects, namely, absorption, reflection, and diffusion. The diffusion research has a multidisciplinary approach, including numerical prediction, measurement techniques, characterization, optimization techniques, and architectural acoustic design. Recording and broadcast studios, and music practice rooms, are usually designed to be neutral adding little of the signature of the room. The quality of a diffusor can be determined by characterizing the polar distribution or diffusivity of the scattered sound energy, and prediction or measurement can be used to determine the angular (or polar) distribution. Scattering from any periodic sequence of Schroeder Diffusors is characterized by scattering into well-defined diffraction orders or directions. The diffusion bandwidth is determined by the size of the panel and the surface topology. The absorption is caused by quarter wave resonance within the wells, and the absorption mechanism is due to pressure equalization at the face of the diffusor, resulting in air-flows across the well dividers. Today, the optimization techniques is combined with appropriate diffusion parameters and boundary element methods. This allows arbitrarily shaped diffusors to be designed to meet the visual aesthetic as well as the acoustic criteria required.
