Sažetak
Within the last few years the increase of local populations of fir bark beetles Pitykteines curvidens, P. spinidens and P. vorontzowi were reported from Silver fir (Abies alba) forests in Croatia. In spite of the increasing importance nothing is known about the occurrence of pathogens with the exception of the described microsporidia Canningia spinidentis (Wegensteiner&Weiser 1995) from P. spinidens. The aim of the research was to record the presence of this Microsporidia in different parts of Croatia. For this purpose, more than a thousand Pityokteines spp. beetles in 2003 and 2004 were dissected and inspected. The beetles were collected by hand from felled trees or from infested log sections that were incubated in the laboratory at 23°C (± ; ; 2°C) and long day conditions (L:D=16:8). C. spinidentis was found only in P. spinidens where the infection rates varied from 0, 8 to 9, 2% which strongly correlates with the intensity of bark beetle attack.
